1 cup of unsalted butter, softened
1 cup of granulated sugar
1 cup of packed brown sugar
2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 cup of rolled oats
1 cup of chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
1 cup of caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
½ teaspoon of salt
Optional: ½ cup of chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract. Gradually mix in the flour, oats, and salt until well combined.
Press about two-thirds of the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
Pour the caramel sauce over the pressed dough, drizzling it in a zigzag pattern.
Crumble the remaining dough over the caramel layer.
Place the baking dish in your preheated oven and bake for 25–30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting them into squares.
