Ingredients
Scale
3 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat flour as a substitute)
1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) instant yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar (for a touch of sweetness)
1 cup warm water (110°F-115°F for ideal yeast activation)
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (you can substitute with cheddar for a different flavor)
2 tablespoons Italian seasoning (or fresh herbs like basil, parsley, and oregano)
Optional: Garlic powder for extra flavor
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let this mixture rest for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy, a sign that your yeast is active.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and Italian seasoning. If you’re using garlic powder, add it here for that extra kick.
Once the yeast mixture is frothy, stir in the olive oil. Gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing until a sticky dough forms. You may need to knead a little more flour if it’s too wet.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 7-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Form the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, covering it with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm area for 30-45 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
Once risen, punch down the dough to remove excess air. Knead in the shredded mozzarella cheese until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Shape the dough into a loaf or rolls, placing them onto a greased baking tray or loaf pan. Cover again with the cloth and let it rise for another 15-20 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once preheated, bake the bread for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and it sounds hollow when tapped.
Allow the bread to cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing.
