Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat flour as a substitute)
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (for a touch of sweetness)
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F-115°F for ideal yeast activation)
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (you can substitute with cheddar for a different flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning (or fresh herbs like basil, parsley, and oregano)
  • Optional: Garlic powder for extra flavor

  • Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let this mixture rest for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy, a sign that your yeast is active.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and Italian seasoning. If you’re using garlic powder, add it here for that extra kick.
  • Once the yeast mixture is frothy, stir in the olive oil. Gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing until a sticky dough forms. You may need to knead a little more flour if it’s too wet.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 7-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Form the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, covering it with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm area for 30-45 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
  • Once risen, punch down the dough to remove excess air. Knead in the shredded mozzarella cheese until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  • Shape the dough into a loaf or rolls, placing them onto a greased baking tray or loaf pan. Cover again with the cloth and let it rise for another 15-20 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once preheated, bake the bread for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and it sounds hollow when tapped.
  • Allow the bread to cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing.
