  • In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter and sugar, beating until light and fluffy (3-5 minutes).
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, and add the vanilla extract.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix this into the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk.
  • Gently fold in the mashed blackberries.
  • Fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full with the batter.
  • If using blackberry puree, drop spoonfuls over the tops of the batter and swirl gently with a toothpick.
